Help Wilmington Repair More and Throw Away Less
We are seeking volunteers for Repair Day, a free neighborhood event where residents bring broken household items and work with knowledgeable neighbors to diagnose and repair them.
We are looking for people who enjoy fixing:
- Small appliances and lamps
- Electrical and mechanical items
- Computers and electronics
- Toys and games
- Clocks and jewelry
- Small furniture and woodwork
- Other portable household objects
We do not offer mending or clothing repairs at this event — those are handled by the library's Mentored Mending program. We also do not repair bicycles; for bike repairs, please visit Urban Bike Project.
You do not need to operate a repair business or be an expert in every kind of repair. Volunteers choose which items they are comfortable handling and may decline or stop any repair they believe is unsafe. Good volunteers are patient, curious and willing to explain what they are doing so that the item’s owner can participate and learn.
We also need nontechnical volunteers to help with registration, check-in, item screening, room setup, tool organization, photographs, recordkeeping, refreshments and cleanup.
Repair Day is intended to help Wilmington residents save useful belongings, reduce household expenses, share practical knowledge and keep repairable items out of the waste stream.
